Philip Owen qualified as a Chartered Accountant with the then premier accounting firm of Arthur Andersen where he provided consultancy advice principally to high growth technology companies until leaving to work in the corporate head office of TI Group plc, a FTSE 100 company, in the mid 1990s.
Philip held several roles within TI Group including Executive Assistant to one of the Group Board members and the Finance Controller of a French JV company. At the start of the dot.com boom Philip moved into the Group Head Office of BT Group plc where he worked on numerous M&A transactions and corporate structuring initiatives until moving to become a line finance manager within the International division of BT. During that time he held various senior finance roles, finishing his time at BT as the CFO for the BT Global Services Product Portfolio Division, managing a budget of over £1bn.
Since 2015, Philip has taken on interim CFO roles at SMEs where he has adapted his big company experience into bringing rapid improvements to smaller companies seeking to grow. In particular, he has facilitated a much more collaborative relationship between senior operational management and their finance teams to move finance from being a processing function typical in small companies, towards being a partner working alongside the business helping decision making and driving strategic growth change. In this time he has created business plans and given investor briefings to support successful public offerings on the London Stock Exchange and venture capital fund raises.
Philip has a first class honours degree in Physics and Mathematics from Bristol University, an MBA from Bath University, he is a fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants, a member of the Chartered Institute of Taxation and an Associate of the Association of Corporate Treasurers.
